SOIL ASSOCIATION

A map unit containing two or more soil classes, in which dissimilar soils are grouped together occupying a sufficient extension and organized according to a regular distribution pattern which is repeated in an explainable way. Due to the nature of this organization, it would be possible to delineate these soils separately at a more detailed scale, or if more time was available for the soil survey.

The scale was arbitrarily set at 1:24,000.

Soil associations are generally used to describe map units at a small scale and general maps, such as national soil maps. These maps provide an overview, but cannot be used to make previsions for the installation of infrastructures or as part of municipal land planning.
